CONTACT LENSES
We are the experts
At NY Cataract & laser Eye Care we are experts in in making sure you are successful with contact lenses. We offer a wide selection of contact lenses including soft, RGP, disposable, bifocal/multifocal, toric, and colored lenses. Whether you wear daily, weekly, monthly disposables, conventional (vial) lenses, or need a customized solution, please come in and discuss your situation with one of our experts and let us help you get the right lenses that fit your needs.
It all starts with a good fit
A good contact lens fit starts with a thorough eye exam to ensure the most up-to-date prescription and rule out any pre-existing conditions that could interfere with contact lens wear. One size does not fit all when it comes to contact lenses. In addition to a thorough eye exam, your eye doctor will take several measurements to properly fit your contact lenses. These measurements include; corneal curvature, pupil or iris size and a tear film evaluation. We will determine the best fitting lens based on your lifestyle needs and the shape and health of your eye. In most cases, you’ll have the opportunity to try lenses on the same day as your exam. You can even go home with a few samples before making a final decision.
Contact lenses that do not fit properly can cause discomfort, blurry vision or even damage the eye.
Your Prescription
In order to determine your contact lens prescription, your doctor performs the following tests on a Corneal topography – a digital color map of the surface of the cornea to monitor shape and curvature, which may be affected by contact lens wear.
Slit lamp microscope examination of the contact lens on the eye to check the lens fit.
Slit lamp microscope examination of the cornea, conjunctiva and eyelid tissues, to check the eye health and to look for adverse effects from contact lens wear.
Contact lens refraction to determine the correct contact lens prescription power (contact lens prescriptions are different than eyeglass prescriptions).
Review new lens designs and materials that may improve comfort and/or health.
Adjustments, follow up and proper care
After the initial fitting, one or more follow up appointments will be made to make any adjustments in fit or materials to insure you get optimal results and the best possible lense solution. All patients are taught proper contact lens care and consequences if proper care is not taken. Lastly, we continue with long-term follow-up care to monitor the condition of the lenses and ensure that proper hygiene is being maintained.
